NEWS:

  • 2019/2020 - The Bay of Plenty Regional Council are now under a legal obligation to implement the LOCKOUT.

  • 2015 to 2019 - Multiple legal cases at the Environment Court and High Court determined that the BOPRC are under an obligation to include this large area for protection in their Coastal Plan. This is to include the removal of all recreational and commercial fishing, spear fishing, scallops dredging and diving.

  • 2015 - Motiti Rohe Moana Trust (MRMT) with support from Forest and Bird appealed the proposed Coastal Plan seeking the inclusion of a substantial area around Motiti for protection. Their attempt to secure the ongoing closure of Astrolabe reef following the removal of the Rena was rejected.

  • 2014 - Bay of Plenty Regional Council (BOPRC) invited submissions regarding a new Regional Coastal Plan.
